Ian Caughlan, LCSW-C (he/him)

My approach is collaborative and flexible. We’ll work together to help you articulate your needs, then I can provide practical tools for immediate relief and help you gain insight to support lasting change. I can help you sort through the chaos in your head, clarify the life you want to live, and take concrete steps to build it. My specialties are:

Adolescents: Your teenage years are hard at the best of times, and it helps to have someone who isn’t your parents to talk to. If you’re overwhelmed and in pain, if you don’t know what you want or even who you are right now, I’d like to help you navigate the unique challenges of these years and develop your sense of self. I am trained in the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS) and have a particular interest in working with adolescents struggling with self-harm.

Relationship Counseling: Whether you’re navigating a major change in your relationship or you just can’t seem to stop fighting, I’d like to help you communicate more clearly, understand yourself and your partner(s) better, and solve problems as a team. I’m affirming of all genders, sexualities, and relationship structures, and I have a particular interest in working with ethically non-monogamous folks.

Anxiety: If everything seems so high-stakes that you’re terrified of messing up, if you can’t stop worrying about all of the awful things in the world, I’d like to help you face those fears and find peace.

Trauma / PTSD: Whether you’re afraid to drive again after a car accident or you’re learning to love yourself after years of abuse, I’d like to help you soothe your hyper-sensitized system and leave the past where it belongs. You cannot undo what happened, but you can have a different life now. I am trained in Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.
